Over 200 highland dancers compete each year at the NH Highland Game & Festival on Saturday and Sunday. With origins based on Scottish legend and history, the dances are a spectacular combination of strength, agility, movement, music, and costume. One of the oldest traditional dances of Scotland, the Highland Fling, signifies victory of battle. The Seann Triubhas began as a political protest after the battle of Culloden in 1746 when the English banned the wearing of the kilt. Legend says the Reel O’Tulloch began in a churchyard on a cold winter morning when the minister was late for his service. Stop by and experience this rich Scottish tradition.
Registration for Highland Dance is now closed. Good luck to all the competitors!
