PLANNED GIVING

LEAVE A LEGACY

Whatever your stage of life, planned giving may benefit you and your loved ones while helping NHSCOT preserve and promote Scottish culture for future generations.

Many of our friends support NHSCOT through non-cash gifts, such as Bequests, Life Insurance, Appreciated Securities, or Retirement Plans, as examples. You can, too.

Some planned gifts have an impact now while some after your lifetime.  Many offer tax savings, and some even provide you with income for life. Explore your options – we’re here to help any way we can.

CHOOSE THE GIFT THAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU

LIFE INSURANCE GIFTS
Name NHSCOT as primary beneficiary of your life insurance policy or as contingent beneficiary should your other beneficiaries not survive you.  Free of federal estate tax and funds are applied to the program you designate.

GIFTS THROUGH YOUR WILL – BEQUESTS
Bequests are an easy way to ensure that NHSCOT can continue to keep the Scottish culture alive and thriving. Designate a specific asset or a percentage of your estate to NHSCOT by including a bequest provision in your will or revocable trust either while creating or by amending your existing will or trust. You may designate what your bequeath be used for if you choose. Your distribution is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes, and there is no limit on the deduction your estate can claim. In addition, the gift is usually exempt from state inheritance taxes. I give, devise, and bequeath to NHSCOT, a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation, the sum of ______ Dollars ($_______). NHSCOT’s tax identification number is 02-035407.

RETIREMENT PLAN GIFTS
Name NHSCOT as the beneficiary of a qualifying retirement plan through a beneficiary designation form, ensuring assets will not be included in your taxable estate. An extra step may be required to designate a 401(k). Assets are passed to NHSCOT tax-free and to any other named heirs.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS
A Charitable Remainder Trust allows you convert highly appreciated assets like stock or real estate into lifetime income by transferring them into an irrevocable trust which pays you an income. This removes the asset from your estate, thus reducing your income taxes now and estate taxes upon your passing. Pay no capital gains tax when the asset is sold and receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction. In the end, the remaining trust assets go to NHSCOT.

SHARE YOUR PLANS
Have you already made a gift through your will, retirement plan, or insurance policy for the preservation of the Scottish culture? If so, please let NHSCOT know your plans, so that we can thank you.

APPRECIATED SECURITIES
Stocks which have greatly appreciated over time make superb charitable donations. By donating long-term held appreciated securities to NHSCOT, you not only avoid capital gains tax, but also benefit from an incredible tax deduction based on the current fair market value of your stock. Contact NHSCOT today about how to electronically transfer your securities directly from your account to ours.

If you are planning to restrict the use of your bequest (designating to a specific area or event), contact NHSCOT while drafting your gift to ensure your wishes can be met.

You’ll be helping to further our mission for years to come.
